Pre production folder- script

From our last lesson we have been very hard on our script and it was my job to finish it off at home. so we have complete all of the script and here it is.

Pre production- storyboard

I recently made an attempt at the storyboard but Sibel has been very good at working hard on the storyboard improving the picture and a more detailed text. We have are more than half way through and are looking to finish very soon.

Audience feedback

From the presentation we established that the audience that we pitched our idea to generally thought it  was a good idea. They like that fact that we used a common board game a brought it into the concept of a real life sinario. Also they commented on that fact the there is 4 characters in this short,
Some concerns that we found and was said is that the used of an African voice over for a narrator. Another concern that we found out as a group was the quantity of our storyline would be too much to fit in a 5min clip. We now have to think of ways to limit our shot selections and scenes into 5 mins.

Start of storyboard

We have now began our story board and now are thinking and linking ideas for shot selections and diolouge
Time to get cracking on with the rest

Creative Ideas


 At first we had many ideas of from a normal guy with a hidden power to a thrilling murder in a group of friends. We wanted to put across the idea of mystery with thriller and suspense in our short film. The idea was to keep the audience guessing who? or what? including all this we wanted to add a moral of the story which we can teach throughout the clip.

We found many examples from short clips such as 'the black hole' '2:20' 
Both of these short film were very inspirational and helped us get ideas flowing.  
Our first initial idea was based on a normal male 17 year old, discovers that one day he wakes up and everyone is procrastinating. The whole world has come to a standstill. He finds that he is the only that can see a tag type sticker on each person which the tag was the cause of procrastination which he soon found out after removing it from his mother. The whole short film was about this boy removing tags from people but finding out that he becomes immobilised when he removed a lot of tags.
This idea was a good start but as it gradually started to build up we found many floors in it. We looked at how realistic it would be to film and it was less likely for us to achieve because we would have to freeze everything and everyone on the street. The idea was later scrapped and we were back to the beginning.
To get more inspiration we searched for more short films. We came with the idea of having something that comes to life which is abnormal but could be realistic. Our final thoughts was based on the film jumanji. We thought of recreated something very similar where a game came to reality. This is where the idea of monopoly came into place.

Scene planout

As a group we went over how we would plan out our scenes before we even start out storyboards. Here is a rough idea of how it would look but things could always change in the future.
The theme of the clip is based on monopoly.

Start - Charlie and friends chilling at home playing Xbox, Power cut, looking in basement for stuff to do, find Monopoly, start to play.

Middle – On first roll, Danny lands on the go to jail marker. Policeman knocks on door and arrests him. Friends need to discuss how to get him back, only way to continue playing! Rachel wins beauty pageant and instantly becomes beautiful, Eventually Charlie gets sent to Mayfair and is teleported there. Freddie and Rachel, left to get their friends back.

End – Freddie and Rachel finally obtain the get out of jail free card and release Jabs from prison… In this time, Charlie manages to get the tube back home from Mayfair. The group agree on one more round, and win a lot of money. The monopoly money turns into £50 notes and they split the winnings.

Scene 1-

Middle of the game power cut, computer cuts out

Charlie checks for the problem and finds to Whole Street has a power cut

Scene 2

Charlie while searching for the problem finds an old monopoly board game under dust

Scene 3

Charlie brings it back to the others

Jabs reluctant to play the game but get encouraged to play the game by the others 

When the box is open it makes a strange sound that only the audience can hear

Start playing the game

Role of dice from jabs lands on jail

[Pop] and he goes to jail

Everyone is confused

Scene 4

Friends discuss how to get him back continue to play the game

Racheal wins the beauty pageant changes appearance

Everyone is shocked

Carry on playing Charlie gets sent to Mayfair

He calls the others at the house to explain where he is

Creative ideas

Today in our groups we went through a brief overview of how our storyline should be. We tried to link all our ideas into one create a storyline. our story consist of a teenage boy who has a special ability to help people in a world of procrastination. He relives the of their oppression by taking an invisible sticker which only he can see. Throughout the film he does that but doesn't realise it is affecting him. we haven't quite come up with a climax and ending but hope to sort it out soon.

Research and planning

So far in our research and planning I have found there is much more organising and preparation to do than in AS. I have now did more research and background information into video's to give me ideas on the key aspects which a product is needed. Although right now I have not chosen what production I want to produce (short film or music video) my research from my case studies have give a broad range of ideas for both sides. My research skills have improved because I now have sources which I can relay to such as YouTube which is different from the task in AS where the sources had to be searched for in the shop. YouTube is an easier source to work from which has millions of ideas which I could study and research from. This has made preparing for this project so far much easier.
